Big News: World Premiere of Shifting Sands

I'm thrilled to share that my new piece, Shifting Sands, had its world premiere on July 25, 2025. It was performed by the Keystone Wind Ensemble and conducted by my mentor and friend, Jack Stamp.

The piece is dedicated to Jack, and hearing him bring it to life was incredibly meaningful. It was a powerful performance, and even more special with my wife, daughter and parents there with me.

I'm now looking for college and advanced wind bands interested in performing Shifting Sands. If you or someone you know might be interested, I’d love to connect.

You can listen to the live premiere here and read more about the piece.

Welcome to Ostrander Music!

Ostrander Music is the moniker for all things music by composer Scott Ostrander. Learn about Scott on this website and sheet music publications available from Ostrander Music publishing.

The last name Ostrander is pronounced as "OH-stran-der", with the emphasis on the first syllable:

  • "OH" – Like the word "oh" (rhymes with "go").
  • "stran" – Rhymes with "bran" or "plan."
  • "der" – Rhymes with "her" or "fur."

So, it sounds like "OH-stran-der" (ˈoʊ-stræn-dɚ).

Scott Ostrander (b. 1987) is a composer specializing in creating compelling music for concert bands, small ensembles, and soloists. Drawing inspiration from a blend of classical traditions and contemporary influences, he brings a unique voice to every composition, enriching the musical landscape with beautiful and emotive pieces.

In June of 2024, his work Symphonic Celebration for concert band was premiered at Concordia University Chicago in honor of Dr. Richard Fischer. This performance was conducted by Jack Stamp and part of Fischer’s 50th Anniversary Band Reunion.

His current catalog includes works for brass quintet, string ensembles, piano, and concert band. He also published a collection of 8 hymns for use in Christian worship entitled Hymns: Series One.
